Reiki, Religion and Quantum Touch

When I was a little girl, we lived in a neighborhood where almost everyone was Catholic. Except us. We lived right behind St. Luke’s church in the south end of town. On summer nights, we could hear the Little League practicing in the baseball diamonds. We rode our mini bikes and played catch in the field between our back yard and the church. My brother even turned over his go cart in the parking lot of the church, causing huge road rash  marks all over  his back.

Almost everything in our neighborhood revolved around the church. It didn't really bother me that we weren't members of the church. Even though we didn't attend Mass on Sunday, we still went to the baseball games and the church picnics. Actually, I didn't even realize that church was a place to develop a relationship with God or Jesus. To me, it was more a social experience than a spiritual one.

My spirituality was just part of me. It seems I was born with a deep knowing that I was a child of God. I always just felt like God was there, watching over me. Even as a small child, I had a deep sense of spiritual understanding about who God was. I would lie in the grass in the field, watching the clouds and pray-thanking God for keeping our family safe.

Holy Communion

When the other little girls were having first communions, I started asking more about the church. I asked my Mom if we could go. I thought it would be cool to be catholic and get to have a first communion-wear the white dress and have a party where everyone brought you presents. 

We went to the church and visited a Sunday mass. It was a little overwhelming. The congregation would instinctively know when to stand, when to sit, when to kneel. They knew all of the hymns the choir sang. They understood what communion was and when to walk up the aisle, hands crossed in prayer, to receive it.

I was fascinated but a bit lost. After the service, we talked to someone about how to join the church. Since we weren’t Catholic, they said I had to go to Sunday school and take catechism classes to learn how to become Catholic.

Sinners and Saints

So off to Sunday school I went. It was a long time ago and I was just a little kid, so my memory of what happened next  may be a little skewed. The one thing I’ll never forget, though, is feeling judged by the adults in the class. They told me you had to go through the priest to get to God. Through communion, and confession, obeying the laws of the church, you could eventually earn the right to go to heaven. 

I remember them telling me I was a sinner. I didn't understand that at all. I told them I talked to God all the time. They laughed at me and said only the Priest is holy enough to talk to God. Even at that young age, I instinctively knew that this was not my truth. To me, saints and sinners were all the same. They just made different choices, but they all deserved God's love.

I never went back to catechism class at St. Luke’s. After that, I tried going to a Baptist church, too. They told me I couldn't get to Heaven if I wasn't baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Again, I just couldn't wrap my little brain around the concept that all the innocent children in the world would burn in hell just because some man didn’t dunk them in water, or pray over their heads.

Eventually, I gave up on being a part of organized religion. But I still talked to God. I didn’t give up on the idea that God was good. That He loved everyone, not just those who jumped through the hoops their religion determined were the ways of salvation. He loved the Sinners and the Saints just the same.

Quantum Touch vs Reiki-which is better?

Years later, when I was a massage therapist, I was introduced to Energy Healing. I learned to feel the energy move through me and into my hands. I somehow knew that this energy was what we are all made of. That it WAS God, flowing through us as the breath of life, of unconditional love, of healing, of happiness and joy. It was the same energy the Holy Spirit embodies. The same energy the Priest or the Preacher feels move through them when they share the Gospel.

When I began studying Reiki in the early eighties, I had high hopes for this energy healing modality. In Reiki, they use “attunements” to help you learn to let the healing energy flow through you. I took the class and started to use the energy during my massages. It didn’t feel any different than the energy I could feel when I was meditating, or praying.

It wasn’t until I found Quantum Touch that I realized why I don't resonate with the Reiki training. It’s not because Quantum Touch is better than Reiki. To me it’s the ACCESS to learning the modality that I wasn't aligning with.

In Reiki, you have to go to a Reiki Master to have your “attunement” so you can practice Reiki. To me, it felt like those experiences I had with religion- you have to go through someone else to get to God. What I know to be true is All energy just is. The methods of accessing healing energy may be different, along with the beliefs about how it works, but the actual energy is all the same.

When I first learned Quantum Touch, I read a book to learn the basic techniques and was practicing them the very next day. I was able to use them on my granddaughter who was fighting for her life in the NICU. I used them on myself and my family to help us cope with what Michaela was going through. I learned all this from a book! No attunements, no classes. Just wonderful techniques freely shared and available to everyone.

Energy Just IS

I was so excited about this new modality, I immediately signed up for an in person class. After a year of training, I became a Certified Quantum Touch practitioner. Two years later I was a Certified Level 1 Quantum Touch Instructor. The training and the techniques Quantum Touch teaches worked beautifully with the Reiki , Polarity and Massage Therapy training I already had.

I use the techniques in my daily life to increase my own life force energy and that of the others I work with. I also use the Reiki techniques, Polarity techniques and even prayer and meditation to connect with my Creator. I have tools such as the AO Scanner or the iteracare device to change the frequencies for different healing effects. If I feel low energy, or human emotions that are less than pleasant, I’ll use those techniques or tools to help me feel balance and raise my energetic vibration.

The bottom line is, no one modality, religion or ideology is the end all and be all. No matter how much we wish it is so, the processes and lessons we identify with or learn in our life are not the only answer to connecting with Source. The modality we teach, the tools we use are not the only way to heal. Regardless of what many religions teach, you don't have to jump through any hoops or perform their rituals to feel the connection with God.

While billions of people on the planet grow spiritually and find comfort in religion, it doesn't mean that's the only way to enlightenment.

You can feel that connection by gazing into the eyes of a newborn child, watching a thunderstorm over the ocean, experiencing the awakening of a glorious sunrise or attending a musical performance. It’s found in the eyes of a beloved pet, the laughter of your children or while making love to your one and only. You can also find it in a church, a mosque, a cemetery or a hospital. Healing Energy is available to all of us-no jumping through hoops required.

Energy just is. How you connect with it is up to you.
