When Energy Healing Isn’t Enough: My Journey with Weight, Shame, and True Healing

Today I went looking for photos of myself for a new website I’m building.
It seemed simple enough — scroll through some pictures, pick a few favorites, and get on with my day.

But it wasn’t simple at all.

The truth is, I’ve avoided this task for months. For decades, really. I’ve carefully limited which photos of me ever see the light of day — choosing what to share based on my size, my mood, and how kind (or cruel) I was being to myself at the time.

So I started searching through old event photos — professional shots from retreats, workshops, and conferences. That’s when I found pictures from a retreat I attended in 2021.

And I froze.

I had forgotten what size I was then. Seeing those images hit me like a wave — shame, guilt, sadness, compassion, all tangled together. My first thought wasn’t even judgment; it was heartbreak.
I hurt for the woman in those photos.
I wanted to hug her and tell her she was doing her best.

The strange thing is, I didn’t feel any of that back then.
When I think back to that day, I remember laughing, learning, connecting, being fully present. The shame wasn’t in the moment — it was in the memory, created later by my own self-criticism.

Since then, so much has changed.
My husband and I sold our house, bought a new one in Florida, renovated it, and moved 600 miles away from everything familiar. I sold my business in Kentucky.
For the first time in twenty years, I had the time and freedom to focus on me.

In 2023, I started working with a local med spa and began a GLP-1 medication. Over nine months, I lost 80 pounds — and I’ve kept it off for a year and a half. I could probably lose more, but honestly? I’m just deeply grateful to feel healthy and free in my own body again.

The biggest change isn’t even physical. It’s mental.
I no longer obsess about food. I don’t have constant cravings or that desperate, panicky hunger that used to feel like life or death. I don’t feel guilt or shame for eating something “bad.”
For the first time in my life, I feel normal around food.

That kind of relief is hard to describe.

I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to understand why I use food to cope with stress. I’ve done counseling, hypnosis, acupuncture, journaling, appetite suppressants, diet doctors — you name it.
And yes, even energy healing. In fact, one of the reasons I became an energy healer was to understand and heal the emotional patterns that kept me gaining and losing the same 50 to 80 pounds over and over again.

But here’s the thing:
Even with all my spiritual tools — energy work, meditation, intention — I couldn’t quiet the food noise.

If you don’t know what that is, consider yourself lucky.
Food noise is that constant, whispering dialogue in the back of your mind:
You’re hungry. You need something. You shouldn’t eat that. You should eat this. You’ve failed again.
It’s exhausting.

The GLP-1 didn’t “heal” me — but it lowered the volume enough for me to finally hear what was underneath.
And what I found there was decades of buried emotion: grief, guilt, loneliness, and fear.
No diet, medication, or energy technique could reach those feelings until I was ready to face them.

That’s when I understood something essential:
True healing only happens when we address the emotions buried beneath the behavior.

Energy healing didn’t fail me — it prepared me.
It gave me the tools, awareness, and self-compassion to face what I had been running from.
The medication simply gave me enough quiet to do the inner work that energy healing makes possible.

Healing isn’t a straight line.
Sometimes it begins with breath, touch, and energy.
Sometimes it begins with science, chemistry, or one small act of self-care that shifts everything.

All of it is part of the same sacred journey — the journey home to yourself.

And that’s what my work is really about.
Whether I’m offering intuitive massage, energy healing, or teaching others to connect to their own life force energy, my mission is the same:
To help you hear what your body and your energy have been trying to tell you all along — and to meet it with love, not shame. ❤️

Because the woman in those old photos?

She was already whole.
She just needed time to remember it.

I wanted to post a recent photo of myself but I don't have any current professional photos. So here's one of my favorites with the man who's loved me through every version of myself. You'll notice it's not a whole body shot. That part of me still hasn't healed yet, but I'm working on it. I guess I'll be finding a photographer for new photos, soon! 😂
